Can light conversion adapter

Like a lot of homes in the US, we have ugly can lights in our ceilings throughout the house. We wanted to swap them out with surface mounted fixtures, but that would have required opening the ceiling, removing the cans and adding a new electrical box - and then repairing the drywall, texturing and painting everything. 

I didn't want to do all of that work, so I created this handy adapter and used the existing cans and lightbulb socket. In order to keep it all code-compliant, I used some Edison E26 Socket Adapters - which eliminated the need to do any re-wiring of the existing can lights. I also used these universal light fixture mounting brackets to support the new fixtures. You'll also need some toggle bolts in order to secure the adapter. The mounting plate is very sturdy and easily supports the weight of the fixture. Can lights (boxes) come in various sizes - these are for 6" (150mm) openings. I've also included the Blender file if you want to modify it to fit a different size.
