Inspiration and Design

I bought a handheld static grass flocker and was severely disappointed by the results. I found a couple YouTube videos showing off a flock box and how to use it to create dozens of grass tufts quickly and easily. I have neither the woodworking skills nor the power tools necessary to follow the videos, so instead I designed 3D-printable versions of the box and the plate for making the glue dots. I copied my circuitry from the video, although I used square copper plates (6"x6") instead of steel rectangular plates. I am not affiliated with The Tabletop Spot, just impressed and inspired!

The flock box main body holds the circuit, power switch, and I/O. The printed top plate isolates the metal plate on the surface from the circuitry beneath. The tuft plates can be clipped to a separate metal sheet, like in the second video, to easily make several glue dots.

I designed the first tuft plate using the same hole sizes mentioned in the video, but felt the smallest size was a bit too small. The tuft plate larger has the same maximum size and middle size as the first tuft plate but has an intermediate size as well.

Update 1/23/24

Added a new tuft plate with larger hole sizes and a tuft plate bracket to hold the wax paper sheet in place more easily.

Print Settings

I printed these with a 0.8mm nozzle on an Ender 3, but you should be able to print them with any size nozzle. For the main body, you will need supports for the shelf that holds the negative ion generator.

Specifically for the tuft plates, the model is 0.3mm tall and I used a layer height of 0.3mm so it could print in one layer.
