This is a shelf that sits at the back of your Apple Studio Display and lets you keep items tucked out the way and clear of the desk. It clips into the power cable hole at the bottom.

It stays stable, even with a hub and cables trailing off the back of the shelf.

It was designed for a UK power plug, which are large and the commercial versions do not work with the large plug.

The monitor can be tipped back with the shelf installed.

See the installation section for installation tips.

Please feel free to give this a like, even if it is of no use to you. If you do make it, please upload you make, they give us all points.

This should be close to commercial quality, so if you have an outlet, please feel free to sell it.

Print

I printed this in Prusament PLA Silver, it was the closest colour I had to the silver of the monitor, it is more a darker grey than the aluminium, but it was the best I had.

Print with the top on the print bed, the model should be oriented that way.

  • Layer height: 0.2mm (but 0.15 would be smoother)
  • Layer width: 0.4mm or your default
  • Perimeters: 3
  • Top and bottom: 4
  • Infil: 25%

I used PLA, but any filament should be fine as long as it is rigid enough.

The design prints without supports.

If you are having trouble installing it, even after reading the next section, try printing it at 99% or 99.5%. That small change might give you the tolerance you need. On my XL it takes about 3 hours.

Installation

Installation is difficult, because it needs a tight fit to be stable. The part does go in and needs some finesse. Not just force, but getting the angle right for the second side. It takes a little wiggling back and forth and a fair bit of pushing, but the fit is tight and the shelf stable afterwards.

Design Considerations

If you are trying to make your own version, the diameter of the hole at the bottom is 40mm and the tilt angle is 15 degrees. I have used 12 to get the shelf to sit just above the hinge, so any weight and it will tip towards the hinge and be supported. This design should hold a fair bit of weight, as the design is in compression. All the weight pushes down onto the lock at the bottom.

Customisation

If anyone is interested, I will upload the STEP or Fusion files. I don't like to waste Printables space if nobody wants them.
