I really like the original Neo Geo AES. Unfortunately, I haven't seen too many models of it online, so I grabbed a bunch of reference photos and made this.
It's not perfect - I'm well aware of a few problems and oversights. For instance:
I haven't added the video output and power plug.
I really didn't attempt to carefully model the bottom vents or feet.
The hump around the cartridge slot isn't quite shaped right. Close, but not quite. It's also slightly mislocated, I think. Close, but not quite.
The body is… solid. It's not a shell at the moment. A later derivative version will be, but this one isn't. Eventually, I'd like to be able to make it a PC case or something - should be able to fit an ITX motherboard, for example.
There's a weird artifact in the grooves around the cartridge slot hump. There's a sliver of a body sticking out, but it's very, very thin and small. In other words, it shouldn't print, and shouldn't really affect anything, even if it does.
Something that's not accurate, but potentially useful:
I created all the text as solid bodies that stick out by a fraction of a millimeter. You could easily replace-face them to make them flush, or pull them out and just project onto the surfaces - but the nice thing is you can just hide them or delete them and “re-brand” the console however you like. This also makes it trivial to recolor them in a slicer for multi-color printing if you wanted to actually print this.
So please play with this, remix it, improve it, shrink it into a Raspberry Pi case (something I'm planning!), whatever you like. Enjoy! I'll probably update this with new versions as I refine it and add details, but for now it's acceptable to me, and I hope to you as well.
Enjoy!
The power button was not copied from, but used Collingall's as a reference (https://www.printables.com/model/152274-neo-geo-aes-power-switch).
Likewise, the cartridge doors used RetroGameRevival's as a reference, in addition to several other non-publicly available 3d-models. (https://www.printables.com/model/427038-neo-geo-aes-cartridge-door-flapframe)
v1.2 update: Front panel improvements. Added text and details to the front panel. Fixed minor geometry weirdness.
v1.3 update: Power switch has been created fully, and more correctly. It's as close as I can get at the minute without an actual one to measure.
v1.4 update: I'm reshaping the console and resizing it slightly. I also added a picture of a Raspberry Pi 5 reference model sitting inside a hollowed-out version of the 1.4 model showing how it'll fit. Tight, but nearly perfect! Many dimensions are closer to original, but I have the upper half of the shell slightly off. It's so close I'm not bothered, but I'd like to fix it if possible (it would be easy, I'm sure, if I sucked less at CAD, but here we are!). This adds all the appropriate plugs and jacks, some text on the bottom (which may be backwards, but I'll get there), and other things I've forgotten about.
v1.5 update: Some pretty significant changes - I reshaped the cartridge slot bump and the indent for the reset button, reduced the lower case width by 1mm/side on the sides, and moved the top grooves a bit. More or less finished - I need to finish the sticker on the bottom, add some final details, etc., but I'm happy with this as-is.
v1.6 update: Minor fixes. Final version unless I change my mind :-P
v1.7 update: I changed my mind! Measured the console, found it was off, corrected it as best I could. It looks really good now, the geometry is less goofy, it seems to actually fit a properly-sized cart, etc. Next step is to create a derivative work to turn into a Raspberry Pi case (or case for similar things).
The future: The internal geometry is a bit… ugly. That is, when you fly into the model, it looks bizarre in places. I'd like it to be cleaner. I've already begun this process on the derivative RPi case I just published, and I'll likely eventually back-propagate those cleansing changes.
I modified it to be a Raspberry Pi case:
