A rack to store your filaments, sized according to the BambuLab AMS specifications. Obviously it will work for any filament spool that is not bigger than a Bambu spool (which is a lot of them).
Designed for quick print, easy production, easy assembly and sturdy build.
Bill of Materials
You can print as many levels as you want and stack them up (as far as it holds, right?). The BOM is as follows:
- For each tower:
- 1x Floor
- 4x End - Female
- 4x End - Male
- For each extra floor:
- 1x Floor
- 4x Foot
Example - 8 floors
For example if you want 8 floors you'll need:
- 8x Floor
- 4x End - Female
- 4x End - Male
- 28x Foot
Print Settings
In terms of print settings, all is made to be easy to print so most configurations should be fine. A few considerations:
- Material
- PLA+ works well, tower a bit “bouncy” after some height (nothing problematic, but not metal obviously)
- Bambu PLA-CF is less elastic, makes the tower more rigid
- PLA or anything will probably be fine
- Orientation
- Default orientation from STL files is recommended
- No supports needed
- Brim
- Generally no need for a brim
- The feet print fine without brim but adhesion area is very thin so you need to turn off the AUX fan if you have a X1C-type printer, because the lateral wind will make the parts fall (turning off the fan has no downside)
- Infill
- 15~20% is fine, anyways parts are 90% walls
- Speed
- The floor prints very well very fast (ludicrous mode)
- Other parts have small adhesion area, I didn't risk pushing the speed but other than that I don't expect issues printing very fast as long as you respect the small overhangs within the threads
- Purge line
- If you're printing on a X1C, the floor is taking most of the build plate and you'll need to move the purge line. See below the GCode modification
Purge line for X1C
To move the purge line on a X1C, comment out the following code, at the very end of the start GCode:
; Find this and comment it out
G1 E{-retraction_length[initial_no_support_extruder]} F1800
G1 X128.0 Y253.0 Z0.2 F24000.0;Move to start position
G1 E{retraction_length[initial_no_support_extruder]} F1800
M109 S{nozzle_temperature_initial_layer[initial_no_support_extruder]}
G0 X253 E6.4 F{outer_wall_volumetric_speed/(0.3*0.6) * 60}
G0 Y128 E6.4
G0 X252.5
G0 Y252.5 E6.4
G0 X128 E6.4And then insert:
;===== purge line in middle of right edge =========================
G1 E{-retraction_length[initial_no_support_extruder]} F1800
G1 X253 Y132.5 Z0.2 F24000.0 ; Move to middle of right edge
G1 E{retraction_length[initial_no_support_extruder]} F1800
M109 S{nozzle_temperature_initial_layer[initial_no_support_extruder]}
G1 Y142.5 E1.0 F1000 ; Draw a 1 cm purge line upward
;==================================================================Customization
The model is made in Onshape, you can clone it and adjust the parameters if you want to change sizes (like spool height for example). If you want to store extra-wide spools, you can print a set of higher feet for example (after adjusting the “SpoolWidth” parameter).
