NFC Walkman

A screenless music player that uses NFC tags hidden in cassettes to select music to play from an SD card. It is intended for toddlers and kids to enjoy music without the distractions!

Powered by an inexpensive ESP32A1S and cheap hardware, the project is completely open source.

• Plays .mp3 files from an SDCard, using the NFC tag in the cassette as a folder selector
• Has both speakers and headphone output
• Every button works as expected with a satisfying clicky feeling
• Battery powered

TODO:

• Find some better speakers to increase audio playback quality (headphone quality is great!)
• Add a barrier between the lid and the electronics to avoid kids from breaking them by inserting the cassette in the wrong place

Print settings:

• PLA is totally fine, tested at 0.2mm layer height
• There is an included .3mf file showing the suggested orientation
• The buttons, lid and cassette require supports on the build plate to be printed correctly
• The button cover requires brim to avoid it lifting from the build plate
