A simple hook for grabbing rope and pulling underneath bands or cuffs for shibari or other rope bondage. This was designed as an accessibility aid for those with reduced finger mobility and strength, but helpful for anyone dealing with tight rope bands. Works best with ropes < 8 mm.
Print Instructions
- Print with standard settings
- No supports, brims, or rafts
- Set perimeter layers to ~8 (depending on layer thickness) to make sure that there is no infill. Some infill patterns at 100% will produce a weaker structure.
Bending for better finger placement
To make it easier to manipulate, it's best to add a curve to the puller so it doesn't sit flat against the skin:
- Boil some water and let the print warm up for about 30s.
- Bend it length-wise to the desired curve.
- Maintain the bend and run the model under cold water to freeze the bend in place.
I found the finger pull worked best when bent to 1" above a surface when the hook is flat against the same surface.
Filaments with a higher glass transition temperature (ABS, PC, etc) might need an alternative method for heating the model.
