This is a simple guide I use for bookbinding. It has a centimeter scale and special slots for convenient hole punching with an awl before sewing the book block. It has a built-in stop on the left side for easy alignment with the paper.
It is made for printing a book on standard A4 paper with two pages per side and then folding to A5 size before binding. Distances from the margin are big enough to allow for quite some cutting and the holes are at a good distance for high stability of the book block after sewing while not wasting too much thread.
It should also work fairly well with Letter sized paper - if you can stomach the fact that it has metric markings.
