Male gorilla cranium edited to be more easily 3D printable. Original model (Specimen USNM585487) was made available by the Smithsonian under CC0 license. This cranium would be useful for teaching primatology, paleoanthropology and human evolution.
This video shows the tools I use to edit CT/microCT models to make them more easily printable: removing internal structures, filling holes and thin areas, smoothing rough spots.
This cranium is the final version that I printed on my Bambu A1 using BambuSlicer to cut it into 2 parts and add connectors (it’s very big!)--I placed the cut posterior to the zygomatic arches. I have uploaded the uncut STL so you can cut it (or not) where you want for your printer. You can see from my 3D print that there was a thin wall in the right orbit that left a hole–I have thickened that wall for this STL so it should not print with a hole there. I printed each half at 0.2mm layer thickness--the posterior half warped a little so a brim might be helpful.
