Simple Alignment Aid for Leveling the Main Rotor at 0° Pitch and Calibrating Endpoints
As with any RC helicopter, the rotor blades need to be set to 0° pitch. This simple tool clamps into the blade holder and provides a flat surface for placing a bevel box, enabling precise adjustments. A more refined earlier version proved susceptible to warping issues, so this design features a generous overhang at the clamping section to improve adhesion to the build plate.
Application
- Clamp the alignment aid into one of the blade holders.
- Zero the bevel box on the rotor head.
- Place the bevel box on the alignment aid and adjust the linkages until 0° pitch is achieved.
- Depending on the FBL system, this tool can also be used to set the maximum pitch endpoints.
The alignment aid is mounted by simple clamping. It fits snugly into my blade holders. Depending on your printer, you may need to scale the aid slightly in the Z-direction to achieve a press fit.
