This model seals the picture in the frame. The picture is captured and can't be removed without destroying the frame. You have heard of capturing magnets or bolts in a plastic model; this model captures the picture. The result is very sturdy and solid. The simple frame design doesn't distract from the picture.

After printing you must remove the tiny manual supports on the picture hanger on the back of the frame, then you can mount the picture on the wall using a screw. For use on your desktop instead of the wall, print the "frame stand". The frame stand is inserted into the same slot the screw uses. Depending on your filament and printer, you might have trouble inserting; you may require force or softening with heat. The "frame stand" fit is designed for a tight fit.

Steps:
1.  print "captured support".
2. print "picture frame", but pause at layer height 2.4
3. once paused, insert "picture" face down with top edge of picture towards back.
  insert "captured support".
  weight down picture and captured support with 6 button magnets.
4.  resume print.
5.  save "removable manual support" and use as "captured support" for next frame.

Two sets of *.stl and *.3mf files are provided; one each for 4x6 inch prints and 5x7 inch prints. The OpenSCAD program, "captured picture frame.scad", is included. Modify the lines:
   pw=6*25.4; // width of picture (6" wide)
   ph=4*25.4; // height of picture (4" high)
to create models for other size pictures. If you have a paper cutter and crop your pictures to other sizes, you can modify those 2 lines to the size of your picture. Your cropped pictures must have right angles.

When you slice the simple picture frame model, ignore the "Warning- Detected print stability issues". The warning happens because the slicer doesn't know about the "captured support" that you manually insert when the print is paused.

I've printed this model with PLA, 0.2 layer height. The picture frame has a pause at 2.4 mm layer height. Avoid warping by thoroughly cleaning the print bed, using glue stick, and increase the bed temperature to 70deg. Warping will ruin both the frame and the "captured support". Be sure to let the part cool before removing, so that they don't get warped. Print the frame stand with supports.

You can print the frame without a hanger on the back; modify the OpenSCAD line:
   entire_picture_frame(true);
to
   entire_picture_frame(false);
and the generated stl file will be absent the hanger. Without a hanger you can mount the picture frame very snugly against the wall using double sticky tape.
