When I saw the competition I was immediately inspired by the gyroid infill that was discovered by a NASA scientist in 1970. The gyroid surface can be trigonometrically approximated by a short equation:

sin x . cos y + sin y . cos x + sin z . cos x = 0.

Then I stared to design the gyroid in 3D and I managed to get the gyroid plane. I found it really challenging to add the required thickness for the printing in metal. In the end I had to do it manually. The gyroid cube of the maximum dimensions 75x75x75 mm became the basis for the trophy.

To arrive to the final shape of the stand I made number of versions. I chose the simplest one that has a base of the cube projected to the base plane, hexagon. I added an alternative versions with the 3D-cube pattern, one with the 3D pattern on 3 sides and the other on all 6 sides.

The trophy is therefore the combination of the metal-printed-gyroid-cube complexity and plastic-printed-stand simplicity.

The stand has a threaded hole to allow to glue the two parts together with the hot glue and ensure good connection as the glue will hold in the thread in the stand and in the gyroid structure in the cube.
