After building a cassette tape delay, I wanted to try my hand at designing a tape loop that was aesthetically similar to certain vintage analog tape delay machines. Being that this tape loop doesn't require additional rollers to keep the tape lightly tensioned, you aren't required to use a specific length of tape. I've tested loops up to >2 minutes and it seems like there's more headroom. I've only tested this setup in a few different machines so I can't guarantee it will work in every cassette player.
The printed parts LeftSide.stl and RightSide.stl drop in over the plastic posts in the cassette shell. The idler wheel goes on the axle of RightSide.stl; ensure it can spin freely with minimal resistance. Gluing a ¼" wide rubber band to a cassette reel is required for the reel to properly grip the tape.
This model was designed to fit various cassette shells but scaling or minor modifications may be required in some instances.
