Elliptical scoop that is resizable, no overhangs over 45 degrees to help with printing.
The ratio for the ellipse is the golden ratio with all dimensions then derived from the scoop opening.
The scoop volume is generally accurate to within 10% depending on the accuracy of your 3D printer and slicer.
Designed with FreeCAD v1.0.
Customisation
The dimensions to edit in the FreeCAD model are in the Datum VarSet:
- Scoop_volume: How many millilitres you want the scoop to hold.
- Handle_ratio: Influences overall length(1) of the scoop handle, defaults to 7.
- Minimum_wall_thickness: Sets a minimum thickness for the walls of the scoop bowl(2), defaults to 1mm.
When changing scoop volume dimensions some of the 2D sketches may fail to solve especially if you make large changes to the target volume. If this occurs just open the offending sketches and deactivate/reactivate the constraints it claims to have a problem with.
It's recommended to use the LevenbergMarquardt solver when resizing(3).
(1) The semi-major length of the scoop opening is multiplied by the Handle_ratio to set the overall length of the scoop.
(2) Mostly used to ensure that the generated geometry is thick enough for printers minimum horizontal feature size (nozzle width limitations etc).
(3) The default solver in FreeCAD is the DogLeg solver which although faster has a few quirks that can break geometry with a lot of arcs.
