Octogo is an abstract strategy board game published in 1985 by a small, now-defunct UK company called "Octogo Games." It resembles checkers but with some interesting additions. The pieces are cubes with an arrow indicating their direction, and the game board consists of slots with octagonal perimeters. The goal of the game is to capture all of the opponent's pieces. Each player has two actions to perform per turn with the chosen piece: moving the piece in the direction indicated by its arrow, and rotating the piece 90°. Players can perform the same action twice or alternate between the two. The opponent's piece is captured by landing on the slot where it is located. It is possible to capture two opposing pieces in the same turn. Players are not allowed to jump over their own pieces. When each player has only one piece left, the rules change slightly: it is no longer allowed to perform the same action twice, so each player, on their turn, must perform one move action and one rotation, or one rotation and one move. The player who captures all of the opponent’s pieces wins the game. I decided to recreate it as a travel version with a snap-on lid and dimensions suitable for fitting into a backpack.

I highly recommend the following settings to achieve the best result:

  • Layer height: 0.10/0.12mm (necessary to properly print the snap-fit tabs between the lid and the game board)
  • Top layers: 4 (to avoid infill marks on the surface of the game board)
  • Bottom layers: 4
  • Wall loops: 3/4
  • Infill: 10/15%
  • Brim needed only for the pieces if no glue is applied to the print bed, no support needed
  • The clearance between the game board and the lid is 0.15mm, so good calibration of your 3D printer is essential.
  • To print a total of 20 pieces, 10 for each player.
