This is my design for the battery holders on a Tamiya DT-01. The battery holders on a DT-01 fit to the sides of the rear of a DT-01 chassis, and restrict lateral battery movement while holding the ends of the shaft running through the gearbox and joint. The stock parts are asymmetric with the left battery holder being closed, and the right equipped with a door and body clip.

I designed my parts to fit the original DT-01 chassis tub, and use the standard battery retainer. But, my design is modular, you can have any side of door or closed end you want. You could even omit the standoff, narrowing the area for the battery drastically.

Assembly

The files included:

  • The battery holder plate for each side, where that shaft sits.
  • The standoff for each side, which controls the depth of the battery holder.
  • A right closed cap for the end of that standoff.
  • A left cap permitting the standard battery retainer door.

To assemble each side, you will need three M3 screws (of length at least 8mm) to mount the standoff to the plate. A further two M3 screws per side are required to mount a cap to the end of the standoff.

The complete battery holders mounts to the DT-01 chassis the same way the original ones do, meaning you will need three M3 screws per side for mounting. There is another M3 screw used for the battery retainer. If you lack a battery retainer, I suggest using https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5003802.

You can mirror the caps to change the configuration.

Printing

I recommend printing in PETG with a layer height l ≤ 0.2mm with supports. I print these on a 0.4mm nozzle. Each side is intended to be printed on their flat side, and should be decently strong.

Post Print

You will need to remove support material from the battery holder plate, especially in the area where that shaft slides, as well as the caps. The stand off shouldn't require any major cleanup.
