Recently on reddit I was confronted with a SLS made christmas-ball kind of thing.
It's basically a cage with a bird in it. Since I love challenges, I started to ask myself whether such a thing can be printed on a FDM printer as well. Unfortunately the model wasn't freely available so I had to make one myself.
Eventually I'll print it on a SLS machine since it's a nice case for demonstrating it's advantages over FDM; however until I get that done it might serve someone as a last-minute christmas gift. Or ultimate print-challenge. Or both.
Printing recommendations: use (christmas-) tree support and a 0,2mm nozzle. Make sure the support doesn't encircle the delicate features of the cage.
Disclaimer: I haven't printed it yet and I have serious doubts about the birds balance. Don't expect it to be balanced. Also prepare some glue.
