I wanted a nice and rugged enclosure for a Wemos D1 Mini that can control DMX fixtures via ESPHome/HomeAssistant and does not have to be powered directly from the ESPs USB port which breaks easily.
So i created this box which holds a cut piece of perfboard in the bottom ( snaps in without screws ) and allows me to easily modify the circuit and replace/reprogram the ESP and RS485 module ( i broke one already -.- ).
On the outside the enclosure has mounting holes for an generic XRL Socket, a Barrel Jack and an USB-C port.
BOM:
- A piece of perfboard 45x50mm ( Pitch 2.54 mm )
- Wemos D1 Mini ( i used an ESP8266 based one but the ESP32 based one also fits )
- The most basic RS485 to serial module ( i used one with the MAX485 chip https://de.aliexpress.com/item/1005007707409998.html )
- Pin headers: 2x 4pin and 2x8pin ( i just cut ones i had from the wemos module to fit )
- XLR socket female Type D ( https://de.aliexpress.com/item/1005004216976192.html )
- A bit of wire of your choice
- ( Optional ) Mountable USB-C connector ( i used this one: https://de.aliexpress.com/item/1005006449806177.html )
- ( Optional ) DC Barrel jack with mounting diameter of 7.5-7.7mm ( depends on your tolerances )
- ( Optional ) a DC-DC to 5V step down converter to use various input voltages for the barrel jack ( https://de.aliexpress.com/item/1005002611484031.html )

For the fancy people or MMU users:
if you insert a color change at the right layer you get a nice colored text and frame on the lid
For the lazy people:
If you don't want to do it as neat as i did, you can just wire everything up loose inside and just hide the mess with the lid ;)
PS: If you need a wiring diagram, please leave a comment. I'll try my best to draw something up then.
