Curious to save money and make your own dishwasher pods?
We made a mold which nicely divides out 1 tbsp into a shape that matches existing dishwasher pods on the market - and added our own sparkly clean logo (star!).
The base of the mold will not release well unless you use a release agent. I added a small amount of beeswax to each and heated it up gently with a micro torch (maybe blow dryer or heat gun could work?)
Beeswax seems to be doing a perfect job, easy to release, and comes out crisp. Also haven't needed to reapply - so seems like a durable option too.
Dishwasher pods
1 cup baking soda
1 cup washing soda
1 cup kosher salt
20 digestive enzyme capsules (minimum: Amylase & Protease)
10-20 drops of essential oil (optional)
3/4 cup lemon juice
Mix together all ingredients except the lemon juice.
Add the lemon juice last and mix.
The consistency should be wet but not runny. You may need to add more lemon juice.
Scoop into mold and smooth over top making sure each pod is filled to the top and pressed in. You will likely have some empty sections.
Let pods dry and set overnight. Remove from mold by hand or by using the ejector.
