I need to drive a load at high RPM using a smooth shaft 775 DC motor. My concern is the balance of such a coupler/adapter in addition to tolerating tangential impacts without slipping.

While the collet like mechanism was inspired by RC aircraft 'prop adapters', I wanted to try out a double slit collet instead of a single slit for greater contact area. Other things I looked at was ‘keyless shaft bushings’ , and a Polulu product which inspired this model

This particular load is a wheel with holes for small magnets for RPM measurement. Printing of these parts is tricky due to the tight tolerances, particularly due to the FDM seam. In my mind, moving the seams into the collet slits was probably the right thing, but I could not get this to work well on the slicer. The parts are printed with layers perpendicular to the axis, but since the collet itself is in compressive stress it is probably ok. The RC prop adapter design will put the collet in tensile stress as it locks by drawing the collet into the bore.

The locking plate pushes the collet taper into the tapered bore of the load. The locking plate has M3 hex nuts embedded in it and is tightened with 2x M3 screws. An alternative is to use a 3d printed collet nut instead of the plate+M3 screws.
