The Pitch

Like Gridfinity but ain't got enough drawers to put your grids in? Brother, do I have a deal for you.

Largely stolen from @AdvancedHobbyLab's excellent drawers modification, I rebuilt these in FreeCAD with some changes, and they are infinitely configurable in height, width, and depth. Why? Because I don't use OnShape. (I don't use Fusion or SolidWorks or any other proprietary software, either, and neither should you.)

The last time I did this in a rather dumb way, which was to take the .STL files and physically cut a section out of them, then fuse them back together in CAD. This time I did it a little smarter.

All you need to work with this is a copy of FreeCAD. I used the 1.0 release, so that version or later is probably required.

Configure readily with easy to use options in the “Parameters” spreadsheet included in the file.

The width and depth settings are in number of Gridfinity squares. The height is the interior height, in Gridfinity units (i.e. 7mm increments). A units height of 5 results in the same shell height as the original.

The cutout lift parameter is how high the sockets for your bin bases should be raised from the bottom of the drawer. I find that 0.5mm works well but you can mess with this if you prefer (possibly at your own peril).

Make drawers in any size.

This allows you to get very silly indeed. For instance, here's a drawer that's only one grid square, and only one unit tall.

…You could possibly use this to store your ants.

Also auto generated are connectors that can link drawer shells together. These are broadly compatible with the original drawer files as well. They'll automatically come out to the right length for your generated drawer shell.

The drawers do not have magnet holes in them for the simple reason that I don't use magnets and find them both unnecessary and annoying in this application. If anyone requests a maget-equipped file I'll make it, but otherwise I can't really be bothered.

Updates

I haven't had to mess with this much, but as of 2025-09-22 I made a small housekeeping change in that I moved the features for the Gridfinity grid cutouts to the end of the model tree for the drawer, which has the net effect of making them easy to delete without breaking the model. This is in case you want a solid drawer with no grids.
