I needed an improved power supply for the printer housing and decided in favour of the Meanwell RD50A 5V/12V.

I use Octoprint (OctoPrint.org) in combination with OctoRelay (OctoRelay) to control the lighting and heating/fan of my 3D printer housing from TUKKARI.

Over time, the 4-channel LM2596 DC board with 3.3V, 5V, and 12V (part of my design collection: Power supply for my 3D printing enclosure) does not supply enough amps to power all components stably. The circuit board used with the LM 2596 DC buck converter is unfortunately no longer widely available, so I consider this modell to be EOL.

Therefor, I decided in favour of the conversion and selected a more reliable power supply unit from Meanwell. With this reliable manufacturer, the model can also be used for longer.

The model Meanwell RD-50A supplies 12V@2A and 5V@6A and is therefore perfect for my purposes. Alternatively, the RD-35A (5V@4A, 12V@1A) with a slightly lower output for the 12V side might work too.

Please find the link to the spec attached: https://www.meanwell.com/Upload/PDF/RD-50/RD-50-SPEC.PDF

Of course, a suitable LED strip can also be connected directly to the printer's power supply unit, but I appreciate the option of control via Octoprint more.

2 versions are available:

  • with 2 holes 12mm diameter for GX12 plugs

  • w/o holes (for adding your preferred connectors and drilling the holes on your own)

Material list:

I am using GX12 plugs (2-pin and 3-pin plugs to separate 5 and 12V with reverse polarity protection). Of course, one 4-pin plug can also be used.

Printing parameters:

  • PETG black

  • infill: 15-20%

  • in case of warping: add a 5mm rim

  • support: recommanded for the base only

Please reach out to me in case you require the Fusion360 files for modifications.

Have fun!

P.S.: My STL is displayed far too large in the slicer. I probably worked or exported in mm instead of cm in Fusion 360. If your slicer interprets the object at the wrong scale, just reduce it by a factor of 10 – the dimensions will then be correct. i will share the updated files asap.
