There are other solutions but I couldn't really find one that uses PUGs and didn't have the toohead umbilical routed so I made my own clamps.
The bottom clamp can be used on the gantry side as well if you don't have the wires routed in the bottom of the gantry, mine were so I made a different clamp.
- To tighten the PUG
- 4 heat set inserts at the back of the clamps
- 4 M3x16 SHCS
- To mount the bracket to the gantry/frame
- 4 M3 T-Nut or Hammerhead T-nut
- 4 M3x8 SHCS
I've found that when the bottom clamp is off center and moved closer in X direction to the Top clamp, the umbilical behaves a lot better, it keeps its S form better and stays under the gantry. I tried it centered first and it swayed to the side onto the bed.
I also tried piano wire to stiffen the umbilical but then the top loop jumped in front of the gantry too much.
I'm using 7mm PUGs (medium) but for 10 wires (2 motors + Y endstop) with the shroud I'm using it's too small, I would go for 8.5mm instead. I'm planning on replacing the cable shroud with a cable sleeve and then 7mm should work better, but that requires depinning and I didn't want to do that for now.
