Warning! I've printed these, but have not yet tested them with the couch to verify that they have enough structure to hold up against the weight of the couch during usage.
--------------------------------------
I wanted a way to change the way the couch feet look but couldn't stand the thought of re-printing all the visible pieces each time I want a change. This made me think about how these replacements could be redesigned so that they are more change friendly, and also use less material.
I settled on two goals. First - the design should use less material and therefore take less time to reprint if needed. And second - the design should allow you to change out the visible face of the feet so that you can change color, material, or add decorative designs if wanted.
The first goal was met by extending the length of the connector pieces so that the corners don't have to extend so far. This let me remove a significant amount of the extra material in the corners while not changing the distance between corners holes.
The second goal was accomplished by providing holes for magnet inserts and designing a ‘face plate’ piece. This allows you to print the actual shoe replacement in whatever material you want or have available, and then print only the face plate in the color or material you want people to see. This also means that you can create a face plate with other designs or or visuals without the need to reprint the whole shoe.
The magnets I used are 10x2mm. The addition of the magnets means you can't just shorten or heighten the feet though, so you you want something other than a 75mm height some work will need to be done on cutting in the slicer rather than just scaling.
I also provided a loose and tighter fit for the connectors, to allow for variance in printer tolerances. The standard (loose) fit has a .5mm clearance and the tighter fit has a .2mm clearance.
