A small little spinner that I made for a ceramics class I was taking (highly recommend, even if you're not intending to get a art major). This spinner is 50mm in diameter (about the size of a roll of scotch tape). Perfect for cups and small bowls.
Required Parts:
This design utilizes a standard 608 bearing for a smooth spinning operation. Make sure to use a sealed or waterproof bearing to reduce the ingress of water and clay into the bearings as that will result in excess wear on the bearing. This spinner is designed in a way to hopefully reduce ingress of clay/slip into the bearing but that part probably doesn't work as well as I was intending.
I personally would not recommend using a 3D printed bearing for this design as I personally haven't had the best luck in getting them to spin smoothly, unless there has been some significant advances in 3D printed bearing designs that I'm just not aware of. Your luck may vary.
Assembly:
To assemble, I would recommend that you press the bearing into the Top Spinner first, then carefully press the assembly into the Base.
Material:
I recommend using at least 3 walls (1.2mm thick walls), adding more walls/infill to increase the weight of the spinner, if you prefer extra heft to your spinner (though admittedly most of the weight will be from the bearing). Use a good quality PLA with no fillers, or a better material (i.e. I would avoid most matte filaments as the material will likely be too brittle to withstand everyday use).
Print Recommendations:
The Top Spinner will require supports. While not ideal, since this is a small part this hopefully won't be too much of an issue. This was done to maintain dimensional accuracy of key dimensions, at the cost of sacrificing the quality of some parts that won't be visible anyways.
Extras:
included are .STEP and .F3D files that you can modify the design. Feel free to use that however you want, just make sure you provide credit and a link to this webpage.
