This is a design for a 3D printable guide scope.
A guide scope is the same as a “finder” scope except it has a camera interface instead of an eyepiece interface.
It is normally used to track stars and keeps the main scope pointed at a target during long exposures…i.e. a star-tracker,
I have been using multiple ASA filament prints of the design for over a year with no issues and excellent guiding using PhD2 autoguiding software.
There are 2 versions of the tube: The shorter tube is for guide cameras with the image sensor outside the focuser tube. (e.g. ZWO ASI 385) The longer tube is for cameras similar to the ZWO mini guide cameras and allows the user to fully insert the camera into the guide tube.
The doublet lens for the scope is available on AliExpress as “73mm Telescope Cemented Doublet Objective Lens Achromatic DIY Optical Lenses Focal Length 280mm”. The vendor is "SRATE".
The doublet lens from Aliexpress drops into the front of the tube and sits on a lip inside. The lense hood holds the lens in place when fully screwed in.
Make sure the thinner of the 2 lenses in the double faces the sky.
The exploded image shows the order of assembly.
Please see the original focuser design by ballanux in the remix notes. There is an excellent video there that describes assembly…in particular, the gluing of the focuser knob to the snap ring.
Total weight is around 1.5 lbs with the dovetail and lens.
This is my first time to publish a design…I'm sure I left something out…let me know. :)
