I shimmed the original screen attachment brackets by 2mm to allow a Waveshare 7 inch display to sit flush in the screen mount.
The brackets are a touch more flexible as a result, but the display is a snug enough fit that it should have any drastic effects IMO.
You may need to use thinner M3 screws when mounting the display to the brackets and/or use additional washers.
