Fits Clicgear and Rovic golf carts. Works best with cups/bottles that have a diameter of 77mm (~3") or larger, due to the way the arms expand to hold a drink securely.
The cupholder that came with my cart (Clicgear model 4) is noted to be a "large" cup which is complete crap, as it basically means you can't fit a 32 oz water bottle. Clicgear sells an “extra large” cup holder too if you want to shell out to them, I think it's only like $15.
Printing recommendations
- Print vertically, from bottom to top! This (and the factory) cupholders are designed with a high degree of flexibility that allows the cupholder arms to bend and wrap around the drink. Resist the urge to print with the cupholder laying on its back, as the layer line orientation will very much be a problem in normal use. The underside of the foot of the cupholder has a large flat spot that you can use to orient the part in your slicer.
- I strongly suggest using something more flexible than PLA, like PETG. The primary reason for this is flexibility. This would also mean things are a little less likely to break if your cart ever happened to tip and fall over.
- Use supports, the entire thing is basically a massive overhang. Printing the part on its back would significantly lessen the need for supports but, as mentioned above, is not recommended due to the layer line orientation and the need for part flexibility.
Future improvements
- The attachment port could probably stand to grab a little harder onto the accessory post, but it seems nearly the same as the factory holder so I'm leaving it for now, and we'll see how it behaves with a heavier bottle in it while I'm actually playing golf.
- I put a small amount of effort into the “speed holes” in the arms, so sorry if they look kinda lame, I think they're alright.
- I may play with the shape of the arms, particularly in how far down the drink/bottle they reach, depending on my own usage and user feedback.
- The factory holder is pretty receptive when you try to shove in a drink larger than the opening, which makes it pretty easy to use (assuming your drink isn't too large). I want to maintain that feature so there may be a need for some changes to help more easily guide the drink into the holder.
