This is a 2D Art Project I made for my engineering class. I was inspired to create something that represents my love for cars which led me to this design. From my perspective, the logos you see are some of the best luxury car brands out there. You can print out one individual logo if you would like, or you could print out the whole set. The set will come with the base and have an array of logos. I chose to print out some in gold and some in silver. The background base is black so as to not take away from the logos or make them hard to see. The cover pages indicates how the pieces can be arranged. The base is made specially for the pieces to fit.
Constraints
For this final project in my class, the constraints were to create anything we would like within reason. The part we created had to show our understanding of the skills we accumulated through the course.
How I made it
To make this model was very straightforward. I would start off with an extruded base (usually a rectangle), and then I would project the picture of the logo I was going to create on it. Then, I would create a sketch on the front plane that would draw out the logo. From there, I would delete the extruded base and then extrude up the parts I would like to. Something like the Aston Martin piece, I would sketch and then extrude the different parts to create that kind of staircase look you see. Now from there, I created the base by putting the logos in the place I wanted them. Then, I made an extruded boss base on the midplane by 1.5cm. Next, I created a new sketch on the front plane and offset the bottom side of the logos by 0.02cm. I then took that sketch and cut extruded it up, creating the areas for the pieces to slide in. And voila, the model is done.
Design changes
Through the process of making this model, I changed a couple of things I did not plan for. I did not have a plan at the beginning, just a general idea of what I wanted to do. Here are some of the things I didn't expect or the changes I made to make it better.
First design change
The first thing I changed was the Rolls Royce logo. As shown below, this is what the logo looked like right after I sketched and extruded it. Now there was one problem I had! How am I going to connect all the pieces in a way that looks nice? created these lines that connected the logo. Then, I offset the line by 0.05cm (as shown below on top) on both sides with cap ends and then extruded it up to the surface.

Then, I didn't really like the look of how it came up all the way. So, to keep it minimal and discrete, I decreased the height of the connectors to half the height of the logo. In my opinion, this was the best look for them.

Second Design Change
Another change I made was kind of not a change, but more of a note of what happened. When I was extruding up the Mercedes logo with a draft inward, the preview looked very weird (picture on top). So I tried fixing it in the extruded feature, but then when I checked out of the feature, it magically was all good! (picture on the bottom) Hooray!!!

Design Choice Three
The third change that I made was to the Aston Martin logo. As explained in the creation part, the Aston Martin logo was extruded, so the wings kind of looked like staircases going from the top to the bottom. But that was not the original plan I had. The original plan was to just have it flat (as shown on top), but since I already made the sketch and have the availability to do this, I decided to try and see how it looked. I made the top one be 1.5 cm and then decrease by 0.1cm each time. It turned out looking really cool so I stuck with it (as seen below).

Fourth and Final Design Choice
The last design choice is all about the placement of the logos. The first idea that I came up with was to connect all of the pieces together and print them out as one whole piece (top picture). I found a couple of flaws with this plan: 1 - The whole model would need to be the same color however, in my opinion, different colors are more appealing: 2 - If I wanted to print out a single piece by itself, I would not have the opportunity to do that, and neither would others. So with these things in mind, I created the base with the slots for the pieces to slide into, which I explained how I made it at the top. And there's the final result!!

ALL DONE!!!!!
