This is not a download and print upload. But rather this is a download, open it in FreeCAD, put in parameters of the timing pulley you want, export and print upload.
Files included
There are 2 FreeCAD files:
- timing-pully-custom.FCStd
- timing-pully-custom.tests.FCStd
The first is used to create the fully parameterized model. The second file is only needed if you wish to test print parts of the pully before printing it in full.
Creating a timing pulley
- Open FreeCAD.
- Look for the ‘dd’ object. It is created with the dynamic data workbench. It is not needed to have this workbench in order to use it.
- Alter the parameters for the timing pulley in the ‘dd’ object. Note that each parameter has a tooltip explaining what it is for. Note that there are also configuration sets. If you wish to alter these I recommend using the dynamic data workbench for it.
- Wait for the model to update.
- Now either File → Export and print, or create test objects first. See the section below.
- Note that there are also dress up features such as chamfers and fillets. These are made with boolean operations so they will remain in tact even though new part design features would be added 😀. For larger pulleys you can set ‘ApplyMaterialSaver’ to 1 to add pockets and save some filament.
Below is a screenshot of all parameters. Most importantly you will want to be specifying the ‘Type Configuration’ parameters.
Testing the parameters with timing-pully-custom.tests.FCStd
I recommend first creating test objects. timing-pully-custom.tests.FCStd references the model of timing-pully-custom.FCStd. It provies you to with 3 test objects:
- Teeth - A model without a flange so you can watch the teeth mesh with the belt you have.

- Grub screw - The screw holes used to fix the pulley onto the shaft you have.

- Axle - So you can make sure it fits the shaft/axle you have. This comes down to 0.05mm precision for a good fit.

I recommend combining both Grub screw and Axle models to the force of the grub screw on the axle can be tested to. Like so:
