This is an OnShape implementation of Gridfinity Refined, using zero imported models, only diagrams and figures.  I've seen a couple attempts at this, but only with the bottom screw hole imported as mesh.  It gets ugly.

It offers blank bins that fill the full defined space.  There are configuration inputs to choose:

  • X, Y, Z units
  • Gridfinity Refined M15 screw hole or no
  • Magnet holes - so far I just have the original-spec magnet spots.

On top of that, I have basic bins implemented, with the following additional, configurable inputs:

  • Label or no
  • Scoop or no
  • Stackable edge - pick none, smooth, or sharp (simple 45-degree angle)

I wouldn't have been able to do this without @grizzie17 's Gridfinity Specification.

Print time is based on a 2x2x6 bin with a label.  I have a soft spot for it.

I'm going to continue sharpening this, and probably moving on to frames and custom bins.  If you'd like to beat me to it, you can copy the document on OnShape.   Also head to OnShape if you'd like to spit out a dimension or feature combination I didn't upload here.  With the permutations possible here, I'd be into the thousands, maybe tens of thousands to upload all.

Thanks to @TeachingTech's videos for showing me the ThreadCreator plugin, and also getting me going with OnShape CAD software in general. I don't know if people still consider AutoDesk to be the GOAT, but it's painfully expensive if you're just a person.  There's still a limited free version of Fusion360, but one of the limits is that you can't play with parameters.

Update 2025-02-15 - V21

New uploads “V21”: Inside wall thickness increased to 1mm.  My original uploads feature a thickness of 0.666mm, which is fine for some filaments, but not very trustworthy.

I have a habit of creating a new version more often than may seem necessary; I treat them more like commits than releases, if that makes any sense.

Update 2025-02-20 - V25

  • New uploads showcase scoops that come up flush to the stackable lip
  • Inside wall thickness further increased to 1.2mm
  • Started exporting STL files in OnShape's “medium” precision preset
  • Deleted most V13 STL files for size concerns.  I had been exporting them in “fine” detail from OnShape, leaving some of them up at 10MB.  Not ideal when you upload so many.  All STEP files left alone.

TODO

  • Implement the side-load magnet slots from Gridfinity Refined
  • Custom bins
  • Frames
    • Gridfinity Refined-style teardrop magnet holes
