An adapter I made which allows a generic switch I bought at my local parts store to be installed in the dash of my 2008 Subaru Impreza. It replaces a blank next to the dashboard backlight knob. I suspect it would also fit in other Subarus of this era, and I know my friend's '11 Outback has the same panel.
Print the adapter on its side. No supports are needed.
To install, remove the panel that sits on the left side of your dashboard, right next to the drivers side door. Next, push the mirror & backlight adjustment panel out of the dash from the back, being careful to avoid snapping any clips. Press the tab's on the OEM blank insert, and remove it from the back of the panel. Press your switch into the adapter, install it in place of the blank, and reassemble the dash.
