The Idea

While looking for a way to mount one of the Logitech C270 cameras on my brand new P1S I was first looking on this mounting arm for the C920. My final creation is not a remix of that model though the entire idea is somewhat inspired on it. But it's also inspired on this Prusa enclosure mount for the Logitech C270.

The Project

The final version of the model I came up with hooks up on the hinges of the door of the P1S and comes with a magnetic mount. This allows to connect / mount any camera on it. The magnets used for the design on the mount is for disk magnet with a diameter of 8mm and a tickness of 3mm. They should snug in and stay in, however I like to glue them in (just to be sure).

There are two versions of the design:

  • Short 50mm version sits close to the door (and so takes less space), however for the C270 I found it too close, not covering the entire print-space
  • Long 90mm version sits 40mm further from the door and covers the entire print room much better.

Everything is printed in PLA. Since it's mounted outside of the enclosure that should be good. Be gentle when screwing the mount to the door to not attach it too hard or off course the PLA will break… (same for the C270 mount btw 😀).

Build your own camera attachment

Because of this magnetic mount you are free to design and attach any camera mount to it. For the C270 specifically I'm just re-using the one from the Prusa enclosure mount (linked above) because that way I can mount it and tilt in the exact way I want it to have the perfect view on my bed. That C270 adapter is screwed on the back of the C270 with an M3x25 screw.

If you are building your own mount make sure to use 8x3mm disk magnets. Center of both magnets should be 15.70mm apart!

Mount Installation Instructions

What you will need:

  • Two M3x8 screws
  • The mount printed in PLA (or whatever other material :-) )

Installing it (without taking the entire door off or damaging the hinge):

  1. Unscrew the left door hinge screw from the P1S (note: these screws are very tiny, you can't re-use them but keep them safe if you need them in the future!)
  2. Then screw in the mount on the left door hinge with one M3x8 screw (at this point the mount should be attached in ~45° angle). Make sure it's firmly attached but make sure you can still slide the mount left and right so in #4 you can still move into position!
  3. Unscrew the second door hinge screw form the P1S (note: same here, gaurd the tiny screw for future use / restore)
  4. Now turn the mount so that it covers the second screw hole and screw in the second M3x8 screw.
  5. Now make sure that both screws are tight but do not overightent them to not break the mount AND to not break the glass / door / hinge!
