Gravity Walker - Battle Dog
Description: Gravity Walker - Battle Dog is an inventive and interactive mechanical toy designed to mimic the motion of a robot dog. The robot dog is attached to one end of a thread, with the other end secured to a small cup with a coin or two (a single penny worked for me). The cup with coins, positioned over the edge of a table, causes the Battle Dog to walk forward in a swaying motion as it is pulled by the thread.
Instructions:
Setup:
Place the Battle Dog at one end of a non-slick table surface. If your table is too smooth, lay a sheet of paper on the table to create friction.
Attach one end of the thread to the Battle Dog and the other end to a small cup.
Position the cup with coins so that it hangs over the edge of the table.
Coin Cup:
The coin cup should pull the Battle Dog forward.
Adjust the number of coins in the cup to find the right balance where the Battle Dog moves smoothly without tipping over or becoming stuck.
Walking Motion:
As the Battle Dog is pulled by the coin cup, it will start to sway back and forth.
The swaying motion will allow the Battle Dog's legs to mimic a walking movement.
Adjustments:
If the Battle Dog struggles to walk, try adjusting the number of coins in the cup to achieve the optimal weight.
Ensure the table or paper surface provides enough friction for the Battle Dog's legs to grip and move effectively.
How it Works: The Gravity Walker - Battle Dog operates on the principles of gravity and friction. Gravity pulls the coin cup downwards, generating a force that is transmitted through the string to the Battle Dog. This pulling force causes the Battle Dog to move forward. The robot dog's swaying design converts the pulling force into a walking motion as its legs alternate in movement.
The friction between the Battle Dog's legs and the table surface is essential for the walking motion. If the table is too smooth, the legs will slide instead of gripping, which is why using a sheet of paper can help provide the necessary friction.
