There are a few printable MOLLE bottle holders out there but they seem to use a mostly rigid structure, which affects how well the backpack or other mounting surface can move and also raises durability concerns unless printed out of engineering filament. To fill this gap I designed this bottle holder, which uses TPU for the main body and rigid plastic of your choosing for only two small clips. It will adapt to any bottle that is about the size of a 32oz Nalgene or smaller, and has a fairly small profile to avoid snags when fully compressed. It fits on a normal Prusa 250x210mm bed. Shown on a Ctactical CT21 for clearer photos but I mainly use it on my Goruck GR2.
You'll need:
- 92A TPU (most common Shore hardness for TPU filament)
- a few grams of PLA/PLA+/PETG/ASA for the clips (I used PLA+ but anything should work)
- 11-12 cm of 3 or 4 mm shock cord (I used 1/8" cord that actually measures 3.7mm)
- One cord lock. I had some on hand but if you don't there are several printable models online
The holder was printed with the following settings:
- Nozzle size of 0.4 or 0.6 mm
- Layer height of 0.15 mm
- 1 bottom layer, 2 top layers
- bottom minimum shell thickness: 0.1 mm
- top minimum shell thickness: 0.2 mm
- 1 perimeter
- You will need to either manually rotate the print or enable rotation on “arrange current bed” to fit a 250x210mm print bed
The clips print settings matter less, just set the layer height to roughly 0.2 mm and increase the number of perimeters to 10 and you should be good to go.
NOTE: I designed this mostly to see how well I could utilize the flexible nature of TPU and design something that would fit a large bottle but could still be printed on a MK3S. It was more a proof of concept and design practice for me, but it works so well I plan on using mine until it breaks. That being said, if you have the money you should look at the OV Innovations Teeter Pouch, which heavily inspired this design.
