This was designed for a friend who was interested in growing - shall we say - “pungent smelling flowers” in a stealthy way due to their current illegality in his state.
Its a heavily modified version of the original filter-ring, that incorporates a charcoal filter and grow-light and heatsink, using a Bridgelux Vero 29 LED.
The LED is mounted onto the heatsink using a spacer ring, with 4 30mm M3 screws (that are drilled through the heatsink using a drill press. Use heatsink compound.
The reflector is a copy of a no-longer-available Ledil reflector - printed out of white PLA (although you could use silver shimmer PLA as well).
You can use the original base if you can source the original fan cheaply, however, I had a box of old PC heatsinks and fans, and took to the Dell Optiplex CPU fan with sidecutters (and cleaned up with a disc sander, and used double-sided body tape).
Fill the filter with pellet based activated charcoal (easily available from aquarium suppliers).
The CPU cooler fan happily runs from 5V if silence/stealth is required.
Use the Vero29 Tall reflector for 30mm M3 bolts, or the Vero29 reflector for 25mm M3 bolts.
There is a centering ring for mounting the hacked CPU fan perfectly as well, if you decide to recycle like I did. This means you can remove the sticker, use some double-sided 3M body tape and use the centre ring to push down the fan to mount perfectly.
Cut off the blue and yellow wires from the fan, and power the red and black from 5V to 12V - at 17V it goes bang and stops working (don't ask).
For a cheap LED power supply to suit, search for “Light Source LED COB Chip with Power Supply Driver 10W 20W 30W 50W 70W 100W” - Note that a lot of these are Chinese watts, so the 50W driver is 30W, 70W is 50W etc.
