For those cassette tapes* that refuse to REW (rewind) or FF (fast forward) in an audio cassette player.

A manual winder to fast forward or rewind audio cassette tapes.

The inner cavity of the winder is shaped and sized to allow the cassette to sit within it when correctly orientated.

Whilst both gears turn only one engages with the tape spool therefore ensure the tape is correctly orientated to transfer the tape between spools.

With the cassette in the winder press the cassette against your palm whilst gripping the winder at the edges and proceed to turn the handle.

The gear ratio is 57/29 or 1.966

As a guide a C60 contains 90m of tape which takes ~2.5mins (Equates to 60cm/s), to wind.

Post Processing

Light sanding may be required subject to print quality to remove any sharp edges that may impact handling.

A needle file may be required to remove any abberrations that may effect the engagement of the gears.

Clear out the 4 corner holes with a 1.5mm drill bit.

In the 29T gear use a 3.2mm drill bit to clear out the centre hole for the brass spindle.

For the turning handle and the rotating arm use a 4mm drill bit to clear out the hole that connects these two elements together.

Assembly

Adhesive may be used in preference to the specified methods although its use will prevent disassembly.

Handle

Into the rotating arm press fit the cross piece or alternatively part insert 4 x M2 x 12mm self tapping screws.

At the other end pass a M4 x 20mm screw with a plain washer through the hole,

Fit another M4 plain washer then the handle.

Then finally another M4 plain washer and a locking nut, tighten just enough to enable the handle to rotate.

Body

Press fit the brass pin or alternative into the hole in the back plate and place the 29T gear over the pin.

Fit the frame with the smaller radius passing over the brass pin.

Insert the rotating arm/handle assembly with the cross piece end through the large hole.

Fit the large 57T gear over the cross piece and press home or secure with the 4 x M2 screws.

Place the top plate over the frame with the rotation direction chevrons aligned with the drive gear.

Secure with 2 x M2 x 20mm screws at the corners with the greatest height and the 2 x M2 x 16mm in the corners with the lower height. It will be required to file off the points of the M2 x 16mm screws as they will be slightly longer than the corner height.
