Heatbed Insulation for your Original Prusa Mini/+
- Save up to 15% energy (the heatbed consumes the most energy while printing)
- More even temperature distribution
- Faster heatup
I made this because the corners of my Mini Heatbed take really long to heat up and are much colder than the center.
And I hated the idea of glueing/taping something on my Heatbed that doesn't come off later.
I created a stiff plate with all cutouts and feedtroughs for screws, magnets and cables for the Heatbed.
One small version you can print on the mini directly and one bigger version you can print on a Printer with a heatbed larger then 180mm. It covers a little mit more of the heatbed and the nice coloured seam under you heatbed is better visible!

This plate should be printed in PETG for temperature resistance. Then you cover the plate with one layer of 3mm Foam Tape from Armaflex/Kaiflex etc.
You get it here:
The adhesive side is away from the heat and withstands 85°C. The foam itself withstands more than 100°.

The easiest way to make the holes after sticking the tape on is to drill them through.
The holes are 7mm
You get the best results with a hole punch or something called paperdrill:
At the indentations you only have push them onto the ground.
Now you can reinstall the Heatbed!
- Check if there is no material of the foam tape on the standoffs where the heatbed is screwed on!
- The thickness of the insulation plate is adjusted in a way there is very small to no gap between the foam tape and your heatbed.
- Depending on your printer, the plate might be slightly too thick, resulting in a slight bending upwards of the heater plate and therefore an uneven Heatbed.
- In this case just scale the thickness of the plate a little bit.

Now youre finished!
In addition, it looks really nice too! :-)
