VERY IMPORTANT:

  • I do NOT own an Ankermake M5. This adapter is untested as of right now, I am posting this so people can test it.

What you will need to make the adapter:

  • High temp resistant filament(ABS, ASA, Nylon, etc)
    • I do not recommend PETG, but you may be able to get away with it.

  • M3 threaded inserts (M3*5.7*4.6)
  • M3x20mm bolt

  • Bambu lab style hotend that has a thermistor + heater combo for the X1/X1C

  • Soldering Iron

  •  JST-PH 2.0 2pin male connector
  • The printed part (I recommend printing at least 2 so you have a spare)

How to print the part:

  • Nozzle Size: 0.4mm

  • Layer height: 0.15mm

  • Infill: 40% rectilinear

  • Supports: required (I used snug supports with a rectilinear interlaced interface pattern)
    • You will need to use support blockers and enforcers, I included a 3MF file with the correct placements.

  • You want this part to be dimensionally accurate so use a slower print speed/print profile

How to assemble the part:

  • Use the images below as reference for how to install the threaded inserts
  • The threaded inserts will be inserted in the direction of the arrows:
  • Once the inserts are installed, ensure that the screws go in parallel to the part, if they do not the hotend will not be straight. (it doesn't need to be perfect, but it should be close)

  • Use 2 M3x20mm bolts to secure the hotend to the adpater.

  • Here is an example image of a hotend installed on the adapter:

Once Everything is looking good, you now need to alter the thermistor that came with your Bambu Labs Style hotend.

How to alter the thermistor:

  • You must cut the thermistors existing connector off, and solder on your JST-PH 2.0 2 pin connector, polarity does not matter. Ensure you insulate the connection.

  • Once it is properly modified, you can install and test.

Assemble the hotend:

  • Follow bambus guide/watch a video for this step

Installation of the hotend:

  • IMPORTANT: A lot of the threads that are used in this model are threaded directly into the 3D print. Be VERY cautious of stripping the threads, and consider printing multiple adapters.

  • The following pictures will tell you where screws will NOT be installed:
  • I recommend taping these parts together(kapton tape or electrical tape will work well):
  • Your 21.5mm - 22.0mm PTFE tube will go into here:

After taking note of the above images/suggestions you can follow ankermakes installation instructions for the rest of this step. Pretty much everything from here on out should be plug and play. Reminder that you will not be using every screw from the original hardware as indicated above.

The final assembly should look like this (the fans, and fan ducts are not shown):

  • If you're not seeing a temp reading for the nozzle in the app, your thermistor is not functioning, you should get a warning on the app aswell. Double check your connections.

  • Ensure filament can be extruded.

Things you should do after a successful install:

  • Run auto bed leveling job after verifying heating, temp reporting, and extrusion are working

  • Run a Z offset calibration print, and ensure your Z offset is correct
