This model was inspired by a Three-Stop Geneva drive from MechAniVerse over at youtube. The Video is embedded below. Please visit the channel numerously and enjoy the mechanisms.
I recreated this mechanism for the purpose of a door lock indicator. You can see the application here in my door lock indicator model.
What is special about this mechanism is that it is very space saving. The slotted wheel is much smaller in comparision to the ordinary Geneva Drive for certain diameter/axe distance relations. If you want to dive deeper, the french wikipedia article (use a translation) has an excelent coverage of the dynamics and all the geometry of the ordinary geneva drive. Most of it will also apply to this variant.
Some learnings about this geometry:
- there is only one pin at a time engaged in the slotted wheel.
- The slots could also be straight, this might change the dynamics a bit but in the end it does not matter
