Though it can probably be used for other applications, the main benefits as a pet collar over more traditional solutions are:
- Doesn't dangle, stays mostly out of the way closer to the pet's body
- Because it doesn't dangle, it also makes no distracting noises
- Lower profile as it can get very close to the collar itself, no intermediary links just adding length
The curve of the clip serves two purposes:
- Allows the collar to be a bit more inset, so it doesn't have to curve as much
- It's the bend point needed to insert the clip inside the ring. Results in a very secure fit while still allowing it to be rotated
Because of the bending requirement, PETG or other less brittle filaments are recommended. I did not test with PLA, but I suspect it wouldn't work as well.
The part is already in its recommended printed orientation for best strength - sideways.
