After breaking a shot-glass trying to hold it with a 3-jaw chuck. I made this mandrel to make it easier to hold objects of uneven diameter in my lasers rotary attachment.

If you build this for laser engraving i highly recommend using a light colored filament. Preferably white. This way when the laser breaks through the stock it causes less damage to the mandrell and inside of the part. That being said mine is made completely from black pla and seems to hold up fine.

You will need:

1x Base

1x Snapring

1x Endcap

1x Ratchet segment

3x Spring

4x Filler segment

15x Jaw (either the 40-62mm dia. or 60-82mm dia. version depending on the size of part you                   want to hold.)

Depending on your printers tolerance it might be necessary to sand the Jaw parts down a bit.

Assembly:

Insert 3 Jaws into the base and each Filler Segment.

Stack the Filler segments on the base, making sure the jaws pins of the Previous layer slot into the tracks on the underside.

Slot the Springs into the Ratchet segment and place the Ratchet segment on top of the last Filler segment. Make sure the Pins of the Jaws line up with the track of the Ratchet segment.

Place the Endcap on top and lock it in place with the Snapring. The Endcap is made so it cant be put on in the wrong orientation, so it may need to be rotated to drop in place.
