I had this project cooking for several months now, mainly because I had to take a break and actually play the game but today I decide it's time to showcase the end result of my 3D-printed Hackclaw figurine based on the original model. The steps i did were:

  • Get my hands on the original model
  • Import original poses in Blender
  • Cleanup the model
  • Split the model into printable parts and colors
  • Slice it per color
  • Print and iterate again when things would not work.

The printer I used: Ender3 V3 SE (mono filament). The filament I used were all from Wanhao France (YUMI). The printed model is 1:7, so 21x12cm and 400gr with the base for a cumulated printing time of almost 2 days (over a week).

You're probably thinking that this is awful quality and you may be right. This is because I printed it with filament instead of resin, did not polish it nor painted it. All the colors are from the filament itself which was a challenge to plan given the colors I had at home. I surely learned a lot during this process and now know what things I could've done better, but I'm not ready to print it again xD

I included:

  • All print files for my Ender3v3 SE using Wanhao filaments to use as reference
  • The 3mf project file for Orca/Cura etc. so that you can see how to lay out everything per color/material
  • All the separate STL files
  • One big STL file with all the parts assembled, in case you want to print it like that.

Materials I used, all from Wanhao:

  • PLA White – W3DPLAWHITE1000
  • PLA Black – W3DPLABLACK1000
  • PLA Transparent – W3DPLATRANS1000
  • PLA Skin – W3DPLASKIN1000
  • PLA Navy Blue – W3DPLAMATTEBLUENAVY1000
  • PLA Brown – W3DPLABROWN1000
  • PLA Silver – Grey W3DPLAARGENT1000
  • PLA Pink – W3DPLAMATTEMACAROONVIOLET1000

Few tips assemble:

  • Have a soldering iron to fix things post-printing (e.g. not big enough holes for fingers, etc)
  • Have superglue and cotton (cotton helps superglue create bridges when pieces don't have enough contact point)
  • The base has no holes for screws and is meant to be printed with 100% infill (at least where feet will be + the very bottom), so that you can use a drill to make the final holes.
  • Note for the base: I added the text in the slicer + color change. The STL here doesn't  have the text cooked in it. /!\

Somewhat instructions to assemble:

  1. Start with the knife/decipherer, fingers, hands, arms, sleeves in that order
  2. Print the shirt
  3. Proceed with the backpack and slide in the shirt before gluing the backpack straps
  4. The scarf is a bit challenging, you will likely not be able to attach the loose part of the scarf. As for the loop around the neck, I had to use soldering iron and some spare support white PLA from the print to bridge the gaps
  5. Then the head, eyes, and back-head
  6. For the hair, I'm sorry, you will likely have to cut the hairline to be able to snap it onto the head
  7. Move on to the utility belt, I recommend assembling everything without the pants
  8. Belly and pants, while adding the utility belt to it
  9. Almost done, the legs and/or legs+feet. In my case I was scared legs+feet would be too high and not strong enough. Also put some inserts in the shoes or legs.
  10. Finally the base, see where the screws will go and drill holes for them.

Good luck!
