This centripetal force sensor rig demonstrates the relationship between force and radius in circular motion. It uses a force sensor mounted to a fixed point, with the radius adjustable by changing the loop that holds the sensor. The mass is attached using nylon thread from 550 paracord, allowing for easy adjustments. The system is secured with #4x1/2" flat Phillips wood screws and constructed from 3D-printed components and 1x2 wood planks.
Designed with accessible materials, this rig provides an affordable and functional demo for classrooms or personal projects. By adjusting the radius and measuring the force, students can explore how centripetal force changes with varying speed and distance from the center.
How to Use:
- Attach the force sensor to the desired loop on the nylon thread, adjusting the radius.
- Set the mass in motion and observe the force reading from the sensor.
- Adjust the radius and repeat to analyze changes in centripetal force.
This build is easy to assemble and modify, using commonly available tools and materials. Model files and a parts list are included for anyone interested in recreating or improving the rig.
