Yes, I know, totally over-engineered, glorious isn't it!

I have grown a few avocado's from the nut, each time I have had problems with the root system getting stuck in the support ring, even on two-piece avocado floats. The solution - don't have a support ring.

This is a hinged (PIP) avocado float which only has support lugs, no ring. It will accommodate nuts with a 30 to 42mm horizontal diameter (so hopefully pretty much all of them). The float will normally sit with about 10mm water submersion for a 30mm nut and 15mm submersion for a 40mm nut. There is about 15mm of extra internal float wall with a large nut, so no chance of sinking (based on 25% gyroid in-fill). The outer-float lip is higher than the inner to stop outer / container wall contact meniscus flooding of the float void. With balancing mass to compensate for the hinge to keep things level.

To remove the sprouted plant, partially open, ensure all roots are free and then gently slide up and over the green shoots of the new plant

Printed in PETG (better water tolerance than most and UV stable to sit on that sunny window shelf). STL and BGcode provided. Prints base down without support. Note: the two side catches are made to have a very close tolerance. I had to carefully release them with a fine, point craft knife, but you are rewarded with a good strong closure as a result.

Enjoy!
