Replacement part for Volvo XC90 shift lever. I broke the release button, this replaces it.
When taking apart notice the hinge pin going across the top with a spring on it (holes on top), then a 2nd pin inside that slides into the hole in the center. This second pin has to slide into the release inside the mechanism.
After taking it apart multiple times my most successful approach was to slide the hinge pin with the spring in first. Slide the button and middle rod into the mechanism inside the shift lever and one ear over a side of the hinge pin. Force it too far into that side to allow the other one to settle and push back. Once you figure it out it's less than a 5 minute repair.
