The main purpose of the device is to aid people who had a stroke to regain mobility in their arms. Over the course of several 10-minute intervals with the device throughout the day, it aims to aid users in regaining full mobility in the arm. However, depending on the severity of the stroke, the user may not regain full mobility in the arm. The stroke rehabilitation device aims to use a linear actuator to lift the arm upward to simulate motion. The main design characteristics of the design are the parts holding the arm, the battery & switch holder, and the triangular linkage. The forearm and bicep parts are the largest parts of the device that hold the arm in place. The battery & switch holder aims to remotely contain the battery, so it doesn’t have to be connected to the arm. The triangular linkage is the main design aspect that is pushed by the linear actuator. The main manufacturing processes of the design are 3D printing, soldering, and tightening of screws. The five main CAD models were then printed with PLA or PETG. After the parts were printed, the supports were removed. Then they were filed and sanded down for a smooth finish. After the parts were cleaned, they were assembled with the use of washers, ball bearings, screws, and nuts. After the main body was assembled, a linear actuator was then strapped to the bicep part. With a connection with the mounting bracket, it stayed flat along the surface. The straps were then assembled within the device. Wires were then soldered to connect the battery with the switch and actuator. The results were a device that adjusts your arm 60 degrees, while it is also easy to use.
