Goal:
The goal was to create a small battery holder. It needed to hold 4 times as many AA batteries as 9V batteries, so I decided on 16 and 4.
Model:
I settled on the design pretty quickly. The spaces between the batteries were created to minimize the amount of filament needed.
Design Changes:
The first model worked theoretically, but it didn't actually work once printed. One battery would fit perfectly, but it pushed on the flexible walls, making it so the other batteries had less space and couldn't fit. The batteries also went in all the way.
I gave the batteries more than enough room so they could all fit. This created a problem of them being too loose, so a case was created to fit over the top. The case would fit snug on the holder. This meant instead of trying to force 20 batteries in and out of their holders, only the case would be somewhat hard to remove. Small bumps were put on the sides of the case to make it easier to take off.
Additionally, I made it so the batteries wouldn't be completely covered, but the tops would stick out of the top of the holder. This makes it easier to remove the batteries. Now you don't have to flip the holder upside-down and have all the batteries fall out to remove one.
The final change was making it so the engraving didn't go in as far. Instead of 2mm, it is now 0.7mm. The engraving is also on the holder and the case.
