This is a replacement sail ring for a small sailboat with a 3" diameter mast. This design is a upgrade remix.

V2 - 07-02-2025:
I've modified the Onshape files to include variables for ring diameter, thickness, Sail Ring distance and width. This is now easily modifiable to your exact sail! I did this because my first design ended up being too narrow for the edge of the sail.
The main issue with the original design is that the load from the pin would end up cracking the ring between layer lines. Additionally I observed stress lines at the sharp corners where the tabs come out from the ring itself.
The design was improved in a few notable ways:
- Approximately doubled the amount of material from the end of the pin key way to allow for more surface area and increased strength.
- Thickened the tabs slightly, and eliminated narrow sections.
- Added an additional support locking tab, in theory this will help transfer some of the load off the pin.
- Offset the pin back slightly from the end of the keyway to allow load transfer to the above mentioned locking tab.
- Added large fillets from the ring to the tabs to prevent stress buildup at the corners.
I printed these in PETG. It doesn't need to be printed solid but I do recommend many top/bottom and walls for longer term durability.
Yes it does open without issue, even though it does look like the middle locking tabs get in the way.
I've load tested this to 45lbs without permanent deformation.
