I saw that Prusa had released the Buddy 3D camera and jumped on the opportunity! My current camera was acting up and this seemed like a wonderful solution. I have a Prusabox from Printer Box (wonderful company makes great enclosures) set up and I have the MMU3 and Spool tank right above my printer. I wanted a way to in the future look at both my print bed and Filament, using the promised integrated motors the camera has.
Using the Webcam Rail model from Printer Box, I BEEFED it up to account for the weight of the camera (it has motors in it, it definitely has mass) and so it (hopefully) won't shake while the printer is printing, and added slots so you can insert M3nS nuts to attach to the front LEFT SIDE hinges (you just need to mirror it if you want the right side) and use M3X10 screws to attach it all together. The rail is made to be about the same height as the door so it needs to be cut in two pieces. You'll notice the grooves on the rail don't go all the way up, this is because the top of the enclosure has a slope on the front two corners and the camera would hit it (maybe yet to be tested this is), so to use less material and take less time printing I didn't make them. (It can be added very easy to do and fix.)
Mirroring the geometry of the rail, and using the base of the MK Family & MINI Camera Mount | Buddy3D, I designed the Camera Mount + Clamp to slide along the rail, screw into place using M3X10 screws and M3nS nuts, use the twist lock part from MK Family & MINI Camera Mount | Buddy3D (still using only M3X10 screws), AND have a way to tuck the cable down for cable management!
I know the hinges are for the right side, I only had access to the right side step files. :( Please mirror them to be used on the left side and your golden!
You'll notice the assembly looks quite large, don't worry! Your Printer WILL NOT HIT IT! Even at its lowest setting! (I tested the prototypes IRL to guarantee this)
NEEDED FOR ASSEMBLY (I'm pretty sure)
- 7 - M3X10 screws
- 6 - M3nS nuts
The camera model in the whole assembly picture was made by @Surfalex2000 https://www.printables.com/model/1093676-prusa-xl-series-buddy3d-camera-scanfusion-model, I used it to check everything!
I did step files so if ya want to change it you can easily!
I'll update when I get everything made and put together!
EDIT 1: I made the rail too short!🫤 Ill drop my config files and print settings after I know they are all golden!
EDIT 2: IT WORKS and looks amazing as you can see in the photos of the fully assembled pieces i have yet to at the camera cause its not here yet 😅. I know it will fit and will update with pictures from the camera when it gets here, for now enjoy a plated project file of all the pieces!
NOTE 1: it is made for a MK4 with MMU3, printing with PLA as the support and PETG as the main material, I recommend doing this BECAUSE the two materials will not bond together so they are perfect to do a 0 Z distance support system. To reduce warpage I tried to have it anchor to little rectangles that can be broken off I think it did a good job doing that.
Note 2: My tolerances are very tight especially for the M3nS nut slots, a small bit of force is required for this. Before attaching to the Prusabox slide the Clamp/mount onto the rail, WITH all of its screws and nuts already inside it, should look like the last photo before sliding on(yes I know the picture screw isn't a M3X10 screw it was all I had).
